Following a number of years teaching, Kath held a range of roles designing, developing and implementing national experiential professional development programmes in science and technology for teachers and technicians.  Latterly, as Head of Primary in SSERC (Scottish Schools Education Research Centre), she led their Primary Cluster Programme in Science and Technology (PCP).  Independent evaluation of PCP reported high levels of positive impact on the learning and teaching of science in participating schools.

Kath continues to be involved in evaluation of a number of science education related projects and was delighted to be invited to serve as a trustee of the Edina Trust in 2019.

Kath was awarded an MBE for services to education in 2016.
