With almost 20 years of teaching experience, Nicola is passionate about ensuring all children have the opportunities to become scientifically literate. After starting her teaching career in a large multicultural secondary school in Rochdale, teaching science, Nicola moved into the primary sector nine years ago. During this time, she has taught science from EYFS through to Year 6 and has been the subject leader for science for 8 years, successfully raising the profile of science by introducing STEM events to enrich the curriculum and increase engagement and achieving the Primary Science Quality Mark (PSQM).

Prior to teaching, Nicola worked as an analytical chemist within the environmental sector. She now works for The University of Manchester, as SEERIH (Science Engineering Education Innovation Hub) Specialist Officer; developing and engaging teachers in innovative, research-informed continuous professional development programmes to ensure high-quality learning outcomes for young people.
